Samsung estimates record Q4 profit on strong smartphones...

The South Korean firm, which surged past Apple as the world's top smartphone maker in the third quarter, is quickly building on its supremacy with sleek designs and a rich product line-up, while the latest models from the likes of HTC, Nokia and BlackBerry maker Research in Motion struggle to interest consumers.

Its handset division is now Samsung's biggest earnings generator, raking in record profits.

Samsung is also weathering a squeeze at its bread-and-butter memory chip unit with new revenue sources such as mobile processing chips and high-end OLED displays. Key rivals are increasingly turning to Samsung for components to power their tablets and smartphones.

The South Korean firm estimated its quarterly operating profit at 5.2 trillion won ($4.5 billion), compared with a consensus forecast of 4.7 trillion won by analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

The result would top Samsung's previous record profit of 5.0 trillion won earned in the second quarter of 2010 and is up 22 percent from the preceding quarter.

One-off gains expected in the fourth quarter include around 500 billion won from the sale of its hard disk drive business to Seagate Technology, and reduced mobile provisions involving royalty payments, according to analysts.

"Even excluding one-off gains, these are very solid results against a weak industry outlook," said Lee Seung-woo, an analyst at Shinyoung Securities.

"Samsung is likely to continue record-breaking earnings this year as earnings from flat screens and memory chips will improve, making up for any potential slowdown in handset growth rates. I'd expect profits to grow by another 5 trillion won this year."

Smartphone shipments are forecast at a record 35 million in the fourth quarter, up one quarter from the preceding three months, when it first surged past Apple as the world's top smartphone vendor.

In 2012, its smartphone sales are expected to rise to as high as 170 million units, according to BNP Paribas and Korea Investment & Securities, the most bullish street view, from an estimated 95 million last year, powered by a diverse product portfolio that spans high-end Galaxy models to cheap phones using Samsung's own "bada" software.

Its latest Galaxy Note model, which runs on fast fourth-generation (4G) networks, is touted by some followers as a "phablet" as its 5.3-inch display and powerful dual-core processor makes it work as both a tablet computer and smartphone. Its successful debut in some European and Asian markets during the year-end holiday season has raised hopes for a solid U.S. launch in coming months.

Samsung, the world's biggest technology firm by revenue, estimated fourth-quarter sales at 47 trillion won. The company will provide detailed earnings later this month.

Shares in Samsung, Asia's most valuable technology firm with a market value of around $150 billion, touched a record high of 1.11 million won this week. It is the best performing stock among major global peers, rising 29 percent over the past six months. Apple has gained 21 percent, Sony Corp tumbled 35 percent, Nokia fell 16 percent and HTC lost 50 percent during the same period.

Motorola CEO: We’re Going to Release Fewer Phones This Year...

While the trend has been for Android device makers to throw new models off the assembly line at a dizzying pace, at least one phone manufacturer is stepping off the treadmill.

Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha said his company plans to release fewer new models this year, in an effort to concentrate its marketing dollars.
“A lot of products that are roughly the same doesn’t drive the market to a new place,” Jha said on Tuesday in a roundtable meeting with reporters. Of course, it is an interesting statement from a company that released the Droid Bionic and Droid Razr in rapid succession, followed on Monday by the Droid Razr Maxx — a version of the Droid Razr with a bigger battery.
Jha noted that it was a delay in the Bionic that caused that product’s debut to be so close in timing to the Razr.
Asked whether he thinks Motorola would be better off if others also slowed their launches or if he prefers them to continue their current pace, Jha demurred.
“I made this decision independent of what the others will do,” he said. “We’re doing what we think is the right thing.”
Jha also said the company plans to pursue fewer new ideas in an effort to make more things stick.
The shift comes at a key time for Motorola, which is in the process of trying to sell itself to Google. The company also warned last week that fourth-quarter sales would come in below what most analysts had been expecting.
Last year the company introduced the notion of a lap dock in which phones could be plugged into a bigger screen and keyboard to perform many of the same tasks as a laptop.
Jha conceded that the product hasn’t been the commercial success it hoped nor did customers find it delivered the performance they were looking for.
However, Jha said that the company is making further refinements and still believes in the concept for the future.

Motorola’s first Android phone with Intel inside to appear at Mobile World Congress

Last month at CES, Intel and Motorola announced a multi-year, mult-device partnership and now both companies are expected to unveil the first device from that deal at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Details are scarce at this point, but Evan Blass of PocketNow posted up the first image of the device and said the camera would be major selling point.

We can see from the single render of the device that it will be running Android 4.0 with Motorola’s custom UI. It also appears that Motorola will use on-screen buttons, similar to what we saw with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The camera is said to offer instant-on capabilities as well as 15 frame-per-second burst capture. It appears that the device will have a dedicated camera button along its right side.

Check out our hands-on report of the Lenovo K800, for an idea of the kind of experience that Motorola might deliver with their device. That device featured a single-core 1.6 GHz Intel Medfield processor, which is likely what we are to see from Motorola.

Motorola has sourced processors from just about every semiconductor company, but their most recent partnership has been with Texas Instruments. Intel’s new Medfield processor is said to be competitive with the newer ARM-based processors coming from NVIDIA and Qualcomm, but we have yet to spend any extended time with an Intel-powered device.

Hopefully Motorola has a few other surprises for their first Intel device. It’s possible we could see a new implementation of webtop along with a redesigned lapdock accessory.

Now that Google’s acquisition of Motorola is nearing the final stages, it will be interesting to see what changes are made going forward. If you were Google, how would you improve Motorola’s devices?

Apple iPhone 7 Release Date and Price Rumors

Apple iPhone 7 Features and Expectations
It is really hard to guess what kind of features iphone 7 will have as we don’t know what kind of technology Apple will develop and apply in 2 years from now. But one thing is for sure that iPhone 7 is going to be better then iphone 4, 5, and 6. Apple keeps on improving it’s products by bringing latest technology and innovation.

You are definetly welcome to add a fews of yours. But here are some areas where we think, constantly and continuously improved features and specifications by Apple are inevitable:

1. More Applications
You can surely expect another thousand of very useful applications in Apple iPhone 7, all developers are working really hard to make more useful applications which will make your iphone better than other similar brands.

2. Better Technology
With the use of latest technology Apple iPhone 7 would be most advance iphone ever launched. New technology will make use of Apple iPhone 7 much more enjoyable. There would be Better Signal and recording audio quality, Improved Retina Display, a less glitchy FaceTime over 3G in Apple iPhone 7.

3. Better Camera Display Screen
You can surely expect screen of Apple iPhone 7 to be much better then iphone 4. There are several complaints received regarding poor screen of iphone 4, so apple will surely work on this and get your more user friendly screen options. Secondly, a 10 MP rear camera with 1080Pixel HD recording and a 2MP front facing camera might not be a big deal for Apple iPhone 7.

4. Improved Storage Capacity
Storage capacity of Apple iPhone 7 is expected to be around 150-200 GB, which is much more than current versions on iphone. You never know, apple may come up with the technology which allows you to do unlimited storage.

5. Fast Powerful Processor
As the storage capacity and technology of the Apple iPhone 7 increased you will also need a fast processor to carry on your activities, hence we are expecting apple to use much advanced processor for example Duel core A6 chip or better. Apple might use 1GHZ chip which will process all data at much faster rate.

Apple iPhone 7 Release Date
When will be the Apple iPhone 7 Release date? It’s a million dollar question definitely! Well, it will be 2013 I guess.

Why? Because, before the end of 2011, iPhone 5 will be launched. So the whole Q3 2011 will pass while roll-out of Apple iPhone 5. Let’s reserve year 2012 for Apple iPhone 6 Release to be on safe side.

Apple is in custom with releasing its new Cell Phone Device versions, almost every year in second of third quarter. With other factors remain constant, August - October 2013 could be Apple iPhone 7 Release Date.
Let's expect it.

6 Ways To Run Windows On An iPad:

April 17th, 2012 at 7:53 am -
While the Apple iPad has become the tablet of choice for consumers and business users alike, it lacks certain mainstream tools, most notably Microsoft Office apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Windows tablets, at least until Windows 8 models appear later this year, tend to be clunky, but run the full range of productivity software.
Fortunately, if you want to experience the best of both worlds, you don’t have to buy two devices, as there are an increasing number of options for people who want to run Windows--in various ways--on an iPad. Here’s a look at six potential solutions.
1. OnLive: Originally a gaming service, streaming software company OnLive recently rolled out OnLive Desktop, which lets you access a version of Windows on an iPad. OnLive first offered Windows 7 through the service, but has since switched to Windows Server 2008 R2 (following a licensing dispute with Microsoft.) The service now has Redmond’s blessing.
The free tier offers access to the full suite of Office apps and 2GB of cloud storage. For $4.99 per month, users also get Flash support and “Gigabit-speed” storage. The $9.99 per month Pro edition, which OnLive says is coming soon, provides 50GB of storage.
2. Splashtop: For developers who want to get a jumpstart on testing Windows 8 apps, Splashtop this week released a remote desktop app called Win8 Metro Testbed. The app allows developers to code and compile Windows 8 Metro apps on a PC, and then stream the apps to a simulated Win8 environment on an iPad. That gives developers the chance to test elements such as layout and touch sensitivity without having to wait until Microsoft and its partners release actual Windows 8 tablet hardware later this year.
Splashtop says Win8 Metro Testbed supports the full range of Windows 8 gestures, including swipe, pinch, and pull down.
3. Nivio: Nivio’s nDesktop service offers you access to a cloud-based Windows desktop from any device, including the iPad and other tablets. The company offers three ways to access the service—from a downloadable client, a standard browser, or through an HTML5-based Web client.
By Nivio’s own admission, however, the service is limited in some key areas--video playback, gaming, and Webcams are not supported, although the company says it’s working on these features. Nivio’s virtual Windows desktop also won’t run executable files. Still, it’s not like the service requires a big investment. nDesktop plans start at $2 per month.
4. Citrix: One of the oldest players in the virtual desktop market, Citrix, brings Windows to the iPad with its Citrix Receiver tools. These help IT departments manage users’ personal devices (say in a company with a BYOD policy for mobile gadgets.) Centralized management tools let admins recognize Windows-on-iPad devices on a network and manage them alongside regular Windows PCs.
Citrix is selling Citrix Receiver as part of its XenDesktop VDI package or through its XenApp streaming software service. Citrix Receiver can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store. It also supports Windows on Android.
5. Parallels: Parallels was one of the first vendors to offer a Windows on Mac solution, so it’s not surprising that it was also among the first to introduce a Windows on iPad client. The Parallels Mobile App, available for $19.99 from the App Store, lets iPad users access Windows apps from any Mac that’s running Windows through the Parallels Desktop client.
The app brings a host of new capabilities to the iPad, such as Flash and full access to Outlook and Explorer. It also supports cut-and-paste between mobile devices and Windows apps.
6. Molten Technologies: Upstart Molten Technologies [see video below] specializes in providing virtual desktop services for businesses. Its Desktone-based cloud platform streams what the company has coined “Desktop as a Service”, and among those services is Windows for the iPad.

Two iPad 3 Models For 2012: Price and Release To Kill Kindle Fire?

Hoo boy! Just when you thought you can get over with all that “iPad Mini” story, another rumor floats on the blogosphere coming from people “with knowledge” on the matter claiming the new iPad 3 will come in two models. The former is the one we already know packing with A6 CPU and retina-like display (2048×1536) resolution while the other one will also pack the same processor although will stick at 1024×768 display only — similar with iPad 2 at a bargain.
Naturally, all of these commotions are branded in the “if-condition” category, but just in case Apple released two new iPad models this year, it’s most likely foreseeable the high-end one will have the $499 for its entry-level price while its lower sibling can have a starting a price beginning at $299 (WiFi-only model) which is highly lucrative and could instantly bring a new wave of competition for those tablets who are using its cheap price as its advantage over iPad like Kindle Fire.

For those who are unaware, Amazon’s flagship tablet manage to sold more than four million units during December said to have undercut and burned iPad sales. Likewise, this may all change should the Cupertino giant planned for that strategy we mentioned above. What do you think?

Sony Ericsson Xperia WP7:

From Vietnam comes a new concept designed by Victor Cao celebrating the supposed marriage of Windows 7 Phone and Sony Ericsson. Thus was born the Xperia WP7, a phone with super design reminiscent of the Arc and specifications are incredible. Of course, these specifications on paper, and this Xperia mount a Dual-Core 2 GHz, from 4.4-inch OLED screen Bravia with 1080p resolution and 12 megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus. Complete the endowment of this ideal the Xperia HMDI, NFC, 3.2-megapixel front camera, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi, Office suite on board, kickstand and Walkman player, all controlled by a 1800 mAh battery (just?).

The concept may seem exaggerated, but considering the technological evolution, the dual core 2 GHz could be reached by 2012, provided that you can not find a decent processor who successfully exploited the existing batteries of mobile phones
